The show started with a corker of an opening number- “Don’t Stop Me Now” the difficult Queen classic was led superbly by David Podmore (more on him later) and everyone of the cast smiled their way onto the stage. The set looked great and stage crew worked hard with the scene changes, the props worked well and the costumes were absolutely lovely. I loved the choice of songs with some great classics like “Everlasting Love” to very current hits such as “Sexy and You Know It” and the one every pantomime has had to have this year “Gangham Style”. The babes were very sweet in all their numbers and the dancers never put a foot wrong. Everyone of the chorus played their parts and showed that they were having a ball. This attitude always radiates into audiences when the cast enjoy themselves and this audience really were in for a treat. The cast too numerous to mention all did cracking jobs with Ryan Jones and Beckie Morley as the Prince and Princess Autora sounding and looking lovely. Neil Garbett as the Dame was suitable silly and sang his numbers with conviction. Emma Castle and Matthew Butler as Silly Millie and Billy were fabulous. Holding the show together and dealing with the audience like experienced professionals nothing phased them. Delivery of their lines was brilliant with nothing thrown away. Gill Cardall as Wicked Wanda worked hard and played off the audiences boos and hisses extremely well but her sidekick Sandra Copestick as Evil Edna stole every scene and her timing on lines and moves was comedy gold. Sandra also wrote the pantomime so very well done on your endless talents. The star of the show for me was David Podmore who played the Lord Chamberlain. He opened with a Queen number and sang it brilliantly and then delivered a fantastic comic performance with great vocals and clear delivery of lines. David had fantastic stage presence and commanded the stage every time he was on it. Well done. The whole cast, crew and production team should be congratulated on staging a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
