It was with great pleasure that I joined a very happy audience at Monmouth Comprehensive School, to see heir production of Sister Act. It was a tribute to the cast and production team, many of whom are students, to see an auditorium with all seats taken, as it was to be for the whole show run.
Monmouth students are very fortunate to have such a dedicated production and support team, who bring out the best in their very enthusiastic students. Their inspiring inclusion policy has clearly given a chance to shine to all students whatever their level of skill or ability.
My congratulations to Rachel Harkins as Deloris-Van-Cartier, taking on this difficult role with a very mature performance, showing an excellent vocal range and looking wonderful.
Miss Van Cartier was very well supported both visually and vocally by Sophie Allen as Michele and Kate Welton as Tina. Good stage presence from all three.
The success of Sister Act very much depends on the support and characterisation of the principle nuns, and this casting did not fail to give the audience everything they expected. Eddie Geddes-Bell as Sister Robert, Daisy Potts as Sister Mary Patrick, Dylis Barrow as Sister Mary Lazarus, Cadie Davies as Sister Mary Theresa, and Poppy Salter as Sister Mary Martin of Tours, cavorted around the stage, singing ,dancing and showing excellent characterisation throughout the whole performance. A particularly excellent chase scene.
Freyer Piper as Mother Superior gave an outstanding performance both visually and vocally, that was so very believable. Great facial expression, so important when only your face can be seen.
I must congratulate the superb performances given by Robert Riba-Fookes as Curtis, Sam North as Joey, Will Havicon as TJ, Owain Phillips as Paulo and Tom Beard as Pablo. What a team! Great dialogue, excellent stage presence and certainly most entertaining with every move.
Jacob Deighton as Sweaty Eddie gave an excellent performance throughout and a much appreciated solo rendition of “I could be that guy”.
Congratulations to Jack Painter as Monsignor O’Hara. Great characterisation and a superb accent that never faltered. Well done.
I must comment on the amazing numbers of students that were seen as cast members, energetically working together and clearly showing their stage skills. The choreography was excellent, and the costumes made the whole show look extremely professional. The outstanding orchestra being situated as a backdrop to the staging was an inspiration.
My congratulations to all involved in this amazing show. You should all be very proud.
