Suspend your doubts…this was not a cop out by a society who cannot deliver a well established and proven show…This was truly a Community group who, with considerable thought and skill, have created an evening of some super songs to fit a theme which is clearly identified throughout. The enthusiastic and well drilled cast were without exception dedicated to the task of entertaining an audience while at the same time really enjoying themselves.

From the outset we just knew that the evening was well organised as ‘Another Opening’ graced the stage with the chorus showing a real enthusiasm for their task. Followed by a bevy of Barrow ‘boys’ and girls with super props and some ‘old’ favourites from some great shows…We had a lad (Connor) who showed super agility as he interpreted his moves in an outstanding performance to ‘It’s Raining Men’, and later in Act 2 to ‘Summertime’ , ‘And When They Ask Us’…. Other great numbers followed seamlessly as each group and individual delivered some of the most iconic songs from shows we all Know and love. I must compliment the young cast members for their total commitment and style as they showed they were not just a token “aarh” factor, they were word perfect and showed confidence and commitment way beyond their years, no individual names, but each and every one can be congratulated on the way they played their parts and contributed to the success of this show!

The chorus numbers were well choreographed with colourful and appropriate costumes, from football kits to poignant wartime memories, and a great nostalgic Christmas medley to end the Autumn and Winter themes in Act1.

Act 2 brought a further range of ‘sunnier’ moments and some moving numbers to follow the Spring and Summer seasons…Great solo numbers like ‘Grow for Me’ from Little Shop and ‘Oh What a Night’ from the mens chorus, ‘Steam Heat’ and ‘Too Darn Hot’ and ‘Heatwave’ all added to the seasonal warmth of the show. Even the audience were invited, nay press ganged, into joining that favourite anthem ‘Blame It On The Boogie’! All rounded off with a lively medley of Cliff Richard numbers from ‘Summer Holiday’, of course!

A big well done for this relatively new group including several first timers, and especially the directors who delivered an eclectic inventive montage of well chosen numbers and a cast where there were no stars but a whole ensemble committed to the cause. A well organised technical support (sound and light) helped this lively show to succeed and calls for more were heard from a truly entertained audience…Great stuff !

We await ‘Every Day’s A Musical’ with real anticipation! Well done to all, your enthusiasm shone through!
