Scrooge the Pantomime brings together the beloved characters from the classic A Christmas Carol and skilfully intertwines them with the lively elements of traditional pantomime, creating a delightful evening of entertainment.  Members of the Society were busy welcoming a full house, and the palpable buzz of excitement was felt across all age groups. The atmosphere was electric from start to finish.

The programme, though simple, was effective and complemented the production perfectly.  Every scene was carefully crafted, with attention to detail in the script. The stage, though modest in size, was used to its full potential. As always, the crew worked wonders, creating scenes that enhanced the audience's enjoyment of the story. The props were well-crafted and thoughtfully employed, particularly those used for the imaginative rendition of "The First Day of Christmas."  Both the lighting and sound were exceptional. The lighting, as always, was expertly designed to enhance the mood and atmosphere of each scene. The sound was well-balanced, with tracks supporting the cast’s singing, ensuring they were heard clearly without the need for microphones.

The cast was, as expected, beautifully dressed, with wigs fitting the characters perfectly.  A special congratulations to Laura Allen, who directed this pantomime as her first foray into the genre. She succeeded in crafting believable characterizations, keeping them grounded without veering into the over-the-top antics that often dominate pantomime performances. With so many talented individuals contributing to the production, it's hard to highlight everyone. However, Mr. Hard and Mr. Easy, the two bailiffs, stood out. Their chemistry and comic timing were impeccable, with routines so well-rehearsed and slick that they had the audience on the edge of their seats.

It became clear as the story unfolded that this was truly a team effort, with every member supporting one another to create the perfect blend of style, atmosphere, and entertainment.  St. Hilda’s Entertainers not only boasts a remarkable pool of talent but also a technical crew that is second to none. Congratulations to everyone involved for delivering a thoroughly enjoyable evening that left us with a spring in our step.
