How refreshing !? This Production would restore the faith in anyone who might have felt that Panto is past it !
A good old fashioned recipe for a Christmas Panto ,with all the usual ingredients, but with a brand new Script, Written, Devised and Directed by the extremely talented Paul Carr and Produced by Ian Robinson.
The story taking place in Santas’ workshop follows a storyline full of antics, madness and mayhem from various Characters who live and work with Santa. There is Mrs Claus, a true “Dame” .The Inventor of new Toys:-Blizzard, who is as cool as his name ,but fancies himself as a bit of a babe magnet. Chip the head Elf who is the “Buttons” of this story, Crystal and Snowflake the two Princess style characters .The usual “Funnies” are Wrappitt & Sackitt .. the buffoons who are Two Elves from the Packing department in Santas Workshop. The “Good Fairy “ in the form of the “Spirit of Christmas “ The “Baddy” in the proceedings is Jackie Frost who seems to think that she can run Christmas her way and Santa is excess to requirements ! So when she railroads Blizzards’ invention of a Snow Globe that… when put into a special machine… can Transport and encapsulate things inside, she traps poor Santa, putting the whole of Christmas as we know it in jeopardy !! But with the help of all of the “Goodies” in the story a clever plot ensues to overpower the dastardly Jackie Frost ,all is saved and Christmas can continue as usual.
But that is all just my potted version ,it was full of magical excitement, intrigue sentiment and lots of laughter, just what a Christmas Panto should be.
A really smashing new plot and storyline, great casting. fabulous Set, Props Sound, Lighting Graphics & Film Inserts. Super Costumes, extremely clever use of modern “Music” with inventive “Lyrics” complete with all the usual attributes that go with traditional Panto ie. Pantomime Reindeer (not Horse) …the “It’s Behind You”-Giant Penguin (not Ghost), “Sing-a-long” Slapstick-Song sheet.
Every member of the cast was perfect in his/her role ,well rehearsed and formed a really great Team which is paramount for a successful Panto .
Some superb Choreography by Rebecca Dickinson was performed by the lovely Dancers/Chorus who showed an abundance of never ending energy and enthusiasm, never put a foot wrong and had beaming smiles throughout the whole show .
The audience were engrossed throughout, with no fidgeting noisy children with rustling sweet papers.. That in itself is an achievement !
This was an excellent Production and showed how with some great imagination, there is still many more “Miles left in the Clock” for a Christmassy Pantomime !
Congratulations to you all from smallest to tallest and from behind the Footlights to the Front of house .Well done .
Thank you for your kind hospitality, looking forward to seeing you all again .
(Oh yes I am !)
