This Patrick Hamilton play relies heavily on the three main male characters. Wyndam Brandon played very convincingly by Rob Hodkinson as the chief protagonist in a murder of a university colleague, aggressive and quietly demonic, he put in a dominant performance. John Freeman, as his guilt ridden partner descends into his inner self depending on the bottle more and more. Lastly the performance of Chris Davies as Rupert Cadell, thoughtfully probing throughout and finally nailing the culprits. Good characterisations from all three. With fine support from Tom Cheshire as Kenneth Raglan, Samantha Ladds as Leila Arden and Mick Asprey as Sir Johnstone Kentley. This was a difficult production to direct, I felt at times that it certainly needed an increase in the tempo and it showed with a few lack lustre moments, but that did not detract from the overall view. I enjoyed it.
