Peter Pan tells the story of a mischievous boy who never grows up. He visits the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael, and takes them on a magical journey to Neverland, a land of adventure, pirates, and the Lost Boys. Together they face the villainous Captain Hook, encounter mermaids and fairies, and discover the joys and challenges of childhood, imagination, and bravery.
The stage was already set: one side featured the Darling children’s bedroom with a grand window, which would later transform into Marooner’s Rock, while the other side showcased the Lost Boys’ den, cleverly camouflaged to blend into its surroundings. The background staging was hand-painted, beginning with a forest of trees before being transformed into a sea-themed scene, adding depth and atmosphere to the adventurous world of Peter Pan.
Peter Pan was brought to life with a fun and engaging performance. The actor showed enthusiasm and captured the sense of adventure in the story. He moved confidently across the stage, interacted well with other cast members, and brought Peter’s playful personality to life.
Wendy enchanted the audience with a warm and heartfelt performance. The performer showed sensitivity and grace, capturing Wendy’s caring nature and curiosity. She had a lovely singing voice and used expressive facial gestures to convey emotion, remaining fully in character, even during moments spent at the sidelines, highlighting Wendy’s kindness and her quiet strength.
Michael and John Darling were adorable in their red checkered pyjamas, captivating the audience with charming and spirited performances. The performers captured the boys’ playful and youthful curiosity, using expressive gestures and lively expressions to convey feeling and bring Michael’s innocence and John’s confidence vividly to life.
Tinkerbell was full of mischief, enchanting the audience with her lively presence. She wore a lovely sparkly green fairy costume and was incredibly expressive without saying a word. Constantly moving in character, she impressed everyone with her fantastic singing voice and a beautifully performed dance solo, leaving a lasting impression with her charm and energy.
Hook made a striking entrance in a fabulous sedan, immediately presenting as perfectly evil and mean. The costume was striking and added to the persona’s imposing presence, while facial expressions effectively conveyed sinister intentions. Every gesture and tone held the audience’s attention, fully embodying the menacing power of the role.
Mr and Mrs Darling brought gentleness and sincerity to the production with their poignant performances. Their costumes were elegant and perfectly suited to the parts, and their expressions and gestures conveyed both love and concern for their children. Together, they created a believable and touching family dynamic, adding depth to the story and helping to anchor the emotional heart of the performance.
Liza gave a confident performance with great, clear vocals. The storytelling of Cinderella was engaging and charming. A lovely solo highlighted a strong and expressive singing voice, complemented by confidence, charisma and natural movement.
The pirates were full of vigour and chaos, creating an entertaining presence on stage. With expressive gestures, confident movements, and clear characterisation, they brought both excitement and humour. A special mention goes to Smee, who was fun and endearingly naive, and to Starkey, who added an animated and amusing presence to the pirate crew.
The Indians were vibrant and captivating, bringing presence and dynamic movement to every scene. Their gestures were expressive, and they added depth and excitement with enthusiasm and flair. Tiger Lily, in particular, was a joy to watch, full of confidence and poise, and made a striking impact in her role.
The Lost Boys were full of liveliness and playfulness, bringing fun and excitement to every moment. Each character had their own personality, with Slightly standing out for a particularly engaging presence. Fox was irresistibly cute, adding a playful and delightful touch to the group. Together, the Lost Boys formed a vibrant and entertaining ensemble that captured the audience’s imagination.
The choreography and dancers were vibrant and dynamic, full of energy and movement that brought each scene to life. I loved the Star dance, which was dazzling and perfectly executed, and the Mermaids, who were mesmerising, moving gracefully and creating a stunning effect on stage. Well done to each and every one of you!
The sound and lighting were professional and added depth and atmosphere to the show. The backing track was well-balanced and always supported the performers, while the lighting was used creatively to highlight key moments, set the mood for each scene, and emphasized key moments of the action. All the costumes were bright easily recognisable and reflected the personalities of the performers. Together, these elements enhanced the performances and made the production even more engaging and immersive.
There were so many lovely moments, but to highlight a few: the Indians’ dance was full of energy and rhythm; the moment when acorns were catapulted at the pirates, with the sheer joy on the Lost Boys’ faces, was priceless; the beautiful mermaid costumes were enchanting; and the swashbuckling sword dance was exciting and full of action.
Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Peter Pan to life. You should all be incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication. Thank you for inviting me to experience such a magical performance.
