What a lovely, heart-warming show this is and it is great to see a company performing it, it has been a while in my district! With good costumes, beautiful set and effective lighting this show was well crafted and performed by the company.
The band was good and ably directed by Matt Hampson and the action on stage was of the high standard one has come to appreciate of Keith Clarke. The ensemble performed very well both vocally and physically and their enthusiasm was infectious, especially in the larger company numbers, I was ‘Down Lambeth Way’ with them!
There were some fine individual performances from the principals and mention must go to Kevin Gammon and Gaynor William as Lord and Lady Battersby, William Adrian as Sir Jasper Tring, a lovely performance by Neil Tallamy as Charles and Helen Caudle as Mrs Brown.
The audience were delighted by the ever ebullient performance of Keith Milaward who played the family solicitor (a fact that he attempted to keep reminding us of but was often cut off in his prime) Herbert Parchester, a good perfoamnce of Lady Jacqueline was given by Lynne Bird and Sir John Tremayne was expertly portrayed by Lyn Williams.
The performances that really shone for me were those given by Gareth Jones as the cockney aristocrat Bill Snibston, who demonstrated a fine voice and great stage presence, Karen Myring as his girl Sally Smith, again entertaining the audience with a lovely voice and Stuart Broad as the spoilt rich boy Gerald Bolingbroke who was excellent. Special mention must go to Anne Nicholas in her performance of the Duchess as she was spellbinding on stage. Beautiful delivery of every line, wonderful command of the stage and the perfect vocally delivery in her songs, a true joy to watch.
Many thanks to the entire company and I look forward to the next production!
