What a pleasure it was to witness the wonderful imagination of Roald Dahl brought to life by
Monmouth Comprehensive School, in their production of Matilda [ Junior ]. A definite favourite for
junior productions, the creative teams, including both staff and students, have provided a show
stopping visual delight.
My congratulations on the outstanding movement of set and props, completed with such
imagination, enhancing every scene. The cast must be commended for their flawless movement of
both stage scenery and props. It is rare to see such confidence and control even on the professional
stage.
The choreography was dramatic and carried through with such skill by the whole cast. I can
confidently say that the audience was watching nothing less than a professional show.
Matilda, played by Isla Haythornthwaite, with such enthusiasm and clarity of speech. I lovely
performance throughout. A great responsibility when the whole show is carried in the singular role
of the principal character.
Well done to Mr and Mrs Wormwood, played by Miles Roderick and Amelia Holt. A truly awful
couple as parents. Great characterisation of the parents, excellent body language and facial
expression. Well done to both.
Can I also congratulate the slick hips on Rudolfo, played by Jonny Finlay. It looks like Strictly has a
new contender.
A lovely performance from Ella Evans as Miss Honey. An excellent rapport between her character
and Matilda. Lovely facial expression. A strong performance from Tomi North as Agatha Trunchball.
Excellent characterisation that didn't falter throughout the whole performance. A difficult
transformation for a young man, but very convincing and most entertaining.
Well done to Daisy Barton as Mrs Phelps, Lucas Beard as the Escapologist and Zara Dunn as the
Acrobat. Three important characters in the understanding of Matilda.
The whole cast must be congratulated on their performance, it was a pleasure to watch you all in
action; each with your unique stage skills, as shown in the excellent delivery of the choreographed
movements and set changes.
