Wow! What a night! These youngsters blew us away with their focus and professionalism as they performed first a musical showcase and the show Hairspray Junior. Both sections of the production gave these young people scope for showing their excellent stagecraft skills.
The Musical Showcase of twelve well known songs from the shows included a brilliant tap dance by Hermione Williams and the girls, Fit as a Fiddle from Singin in the Rain, a show stopping Don’t Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl with Millie Vaughan and dancing company, and a moving rendition from Kerrigan Hefferman accompanied by his guitar of When we Were Young from Godspell.
Anni Rees gave an outstanding The Audition Song from La La Land, and Tom Davies defied his youth to give a mature and exceptional Close Every Door from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
To end Act 1 the whole company of stars joined together for All For The Best from Godspell.
Completely different, Hairspray Junior opened with tremendous impact and a star was born with the incredible Rebecca Saunders as Tracy Turnblad, who gave the performance of her life.. We seldom see a performer as young as this able to act her own role and interact so naturally with everyone else she plays opposite and also those on stage, it is a great skill usually taking years to learn! The cast sadly suffered technical problems and watch diction as there were diction lapses.
Kerrigan Hefferman played the hyper, sleazy Corny Collins brilliantly.Other parts very well played were Anni Rees as Amber Von Tussle, Wade Fox as Link Larkin, Izzy Neville as Edna Turnblad, Analisa Head as Prudy Pingleton, Ella Griffiths as Penny Pingleton and Zoe Hughs as Motormouth Maybelle. Good performances from Abigail Harrington as Little Inez, Alex Evans as Wilber, Sydney Bawler as Seaweed
Congrats to Director Matt Bryant on his successful debut and well done M.D. Andrew Protherough Jones for great music and spot on pace, and all the hard working team.
Star studded performances with energy, the future is theirs, AAODS Juniors really showed what they can do and how versatile they all are, the sky is no limit!
