Hoylake and West Kirby’s contribution to this excellent evening was “Getting to know you” a piece written by Lisa Founds a member of the Society and directed by Ami Clewlow. Trapping people in a lift is always a good scenario and this was no exception. Set in a college building we had a number of students criss crossing for effect and then the arrival of more mature students who get into the lift, which of course stops in mid ascent. The author introduced a variety of characters including a lady in a wheelchair, all with varied accents and styles which contributed to success of this piece. The upshot was that each of them had to speak of their lives which of course helped to offset the wait till the lift got going again. I have not listed names as all the individual contributions worked so well to support the whole. There were plenty of laughs and this was a most enjoyable one act play. Costuming was effective and in keeping with the characters and the “lift” was well presented with appropriate noises. Well done to everyone involved.
And well done to Phyllis Driscoll who organised the Festival and was such a good host.
