The show Evita, with Lyrics by Tim Rice and Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, tells the true story of Eva Peron, Argentina’s First Lady, from her humble beginnings to her rise in power during the 1940s along with her husband, President Juan Peron. The set is simple but effective, lighting and sound are good - this all creates the right atmosphere. The costumes and hair/make-up, again are just right with a lot of attention to detail.
Director Chrissie Peckham has a great cast with this production. Jonathan Spratt has the cast all singing well as the entire show is sung. The Orchestra make a good sound. The dancing is also good and effective by Jenny Elward.
Stephanie Jones plays Evita with a style of her own; she has a good vocal range, facial expressions, and looks the part. I loved ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’.
Duncan Reid plays Che, the revolutionist narrator - they work well together. I really liked the Waltz for Eva & Che. Duncan has a good stage presence and tells the story well.
Michael Leggett takes the role of President Juan Peron, Eva’s husband. A strong likable character. Matthew Elward is good as Augustin Magaldi, Eva’s first husband, and Gina Elward’s ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’ was lovely.
Other smaller parts and chorus all added to the production. The use of pictures from the era was a nice touch. Well done to everyone involved.
