Mayhem Youth Theatre chose a ground breaking and deeply moving production of change and hope for the future for their Autumn production.
Central to this show and the title character Jamie in ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ was a huge responsibility to take on, especially at relatively short notice and TJ Friend in this leading role was word perfect, portraying a character working hard to get through life, giving a thoughtful, restrained performance as Jamie, a new take on it, not visually and not as this character is usually performed, yet true to life, battling for acceptance in a world of conflict at every corner, a journey into the light.
Teacher Miss Hedge Lily Wallace, played this part with honest reality giving the contrast between her frustration and true feelings, an outstanding performance. Good precision from the ensemble performers with all their gutsy numbers making an impact with free choreography and the opening
number ‘You Don’t Even Know It’, that effectively mirrored the reality of a school setting, casual and
not ever precise.
An outstanding versatile performance from Luke Lambe, as Loco Chanelle/Hugo and great interaction with the rest of the cast, certainly made an impact. A cute Young Loco Chanelle Jessie Fletcher. This cast all worked as one giving their characters life.
The team responsible for the quick drag costume and makeup changes worked hard, Liam Phelps and Lucy Friend.
Dylan Pritchard as Dean gave strong emotion charged acting, the fierce resentment he felt was tangible, very well done. Jamie’s Dad, a powerful performance from Bobby Edwards, and Mum Margaret given a deep emotion packed interpretation from Anya Duberley.
An outstanding band of talented musicians gave life to every scene led so well by their MD Ruth Friend.
Friend of Jamie Pritti Pasha, Isla Davies, excelled acting and singing the song Beautiful accompanied by an exceptional solo guitar accompaniment from Liam Cleaves left us all moved ,beautifully amazing it certainly was!
Helen Stidolph on piano excelled with several solo accompaniments throughout.
Visiting your shows is special and without exception we are constantly surprised by the productions we see from Mayhem Youth Theatre. Well done on such a thought provoking production.
Thank you for your welcome and hospitality. Every success for the future Mayhem!!
