This was a lively sequel to the Boy Friend set in 1936 with more or less the same characters. There were 28 people in the cast with some playing two roles, and of these 28 eighteen were principal roles. It is not possible to mention all. The eight ‘boys and girls’ who were from the original Boy Friend all portrayed their characters well. The Hon. Tony and Polly Brockhurst (Steve Nottage and Emily Bastin) and Polly Ashton as Hannah van Husen an over-the-top American all acted and sang well. Lady and Lord Brockhurst (Joan Cannell and Alan Young) produced some really nice comic moments, he chasing the ladies and she, a Health& Beauty fanatic, with her aficionados. were excellent. Sir Freddy (Christopher Bawden) acted and sang with elan. M Gaston (Roy Flowers) was an excellent proprietor of the hotel, and Hortense (Bee Cassidy) sang superbly. Percival Browne ( Mike Davenport) and Mme Dubonnet ( Gloria Smith) both played their roles competently. Iain Cannell (The President of Monomania) played the part with gusto. The chorus and all the minor roles were performed with enthusiasm. The set was simple and effective. The lighting was fine but the sound balance could have been better. The costumes and wigs were OK with one or two anomalies in the men’s evening wear. Although rather dated it was an entertaining show.
