Another lovely Production by St Pauls Players! - Cinderella is one of the age old favourite Pantomimes, but it’s always interesting to see what can be done to create something a little different.
Company Chairman Graham Cohen (Director) ably assisted by Phil Armstrong and co-ordinated by Judith Armstrong made a sterling job of producing a Panto with the introduction of more modern songs, banter, slapstick and copious amounts of ad-libs than you can shake a stick at to give the good old traditional storyline a modern twist.
The casting was excellent, with each cast member suited to their role, too many to name individually, but all did great justice to the individual characters that they portrayed, from the sweet and bashful, dashing and delightful, to the blundering and barking mad, everyone gave it gusto and had the audience completely entranced.
A good gauge of a good panto, is when you can’t hear rustling sweet wrappers and there’s no children charging up and down the aisles - well there wasn’t a sweet wrapper in sight and the children were well and truly gripped by the antics on the stage, as were the Adults when certain ad-libs were aimed at them! All were extremely well timed I might add in fact the Comedy and “Buffoonish-Battiness” was at it’s best and there wasn’t more than two minutes through out the performance where raucous laughter wasn’t deafening ( for all the right reasons !)
Super Choreography by Lorraine Sullivan created some delightful routines which were well performed by the lovely and lively Chorus and Dancers who made it obvious that they were all having a ball, none of whom put a foot wrong and it was so nice to see how keen they all were. Panto is such a good stepping stone for the future actors and actresses of our societies.
Stephen Blundell (Stage Manager) and his Stage and Props Crew once again handled the set brilliantly and all the scene changing was really speedy.
Sound and Lighting were kept on their toes with an abundance of queues, but it was all excellent with some lovely effects.
Costumes were really effective and were supplied by a great team effort headed up by Judith Armstrong, Lisa Cohen & Jane Harrison, with make-up by Lily Blundell meant that the attention to detail was in abundance ,with some beautifully colour co-ordinated scenes which gave a lovely finishing touch to a great performance.
As usual St Pauls’ “Front of House Team” were so well organised and worked really hard.
Well done to the whole Company, Committee, Cast and Crew once again for another super successful Show, I really had such an enjoyable evening,
