What a difference to last year’s Panto, good journey there and back. Once again the society brought Christmas  to the Dales. There was plenty of laughs and everybody acted and sang superbly, with many very good performances.

Amy Swales was outstanding in the title role of Cinderella, with an excellent singing voice  and acted her part perfectly. Her sisters [the ugly ones] were great namely Carolyn Teasdale playing Bella, and Gillian Atkinson playing Donna, they were excellently supported by  Julia di Duca playing  Grimelda.

Kory Spink  was excellent as Buttons, [he won an award at our first  performance  award ceremony 3 years ago] he has now matured excellently. Prince Charming was excellently played by Liz Whitehead - really well done. Dandini  should have been played by Leonie Garrard but due to a family bereavement was unable to take part, and with only a few days before opening night India  Atkinson took over the part, and how well she performed. When Cinders transformed to go to the ball it was very well done on the stage, when everybody brought her  gown on and they dressed her  there and very cleverly took her to the Ball.

You always have to have some 'stooges' taking parts in panto and Hawes have just the right pair in Colin Tindill  playing Dim & Adrian Janke who played Wit and, although they were always up to no good, they both took there parts very well indeed. Another youngster Alana Teasdale played Max { the Dog ) very well indeed.

The Baron von Trapdoor was again well played by Graham Di Duca. The King and Queen was played by Michael and Hazel Waldman, they really do make an excellent job in this type of part. The other roles were played by Jennifer Fawcett, Emily Pickard, Tom Entwistle with Nicole Sunter understudy for Cinderella.

With seven in the junior Chorus  who really sang very well  indeed. The people of Hawes are very lucky to have Colin Bailey who not only directs the Panto’s but also has other Musical functions involving many children  all the year round. They are taking this Pantomime for a two night performance to the Methodist Hall in Leyburn in January. Such is the enthusiasm of the company. On a very small stage Julia Di Duca did a very good job along with the back stage staff who really haven’t much space at all to store the scenery. This really was an excellent show and I am looking forward to next years show. Very well done Hawes.
