Plenty to take on for this show, especially with a large company and limited stage depth, but this Society successfully rose to the occasion. Andrea used the stage very well, especially during the interesting Prologue, making the most of all access points to create interest and move larger numbers efficiently. Paul made good use of the musical opportunities with good interpretation, creating a lovely sound from stage and pit. There were great performances from Chris Hind and Angela Allen as Billy and Julie vocally and dramatically, both individually and as a team. Sarah Hemsall and Aiden Banyard were the perfect couple to play Carrie and Enoch, a fine partnership. Joanne Lassmans was a lovely Nettie while in contrast Steve Rowan gave us a suitably “evil” Jigger. All the cast and chorus were in fine voice throughout, especially in the Finale. There was excellent choreography and dance with a wonderful Ballet, a real showpiece. The costumes and scenery were fine and together with the good lighting, all added to the occasion. The stage crew handled the changes efficiently keeping the show flowing. This was great entertainment, which can only have resulted from very good planning, preparation and not a little dedication.
