This was another good production from this Society, very well directed by Christine, at times filling the stage with movement. I particularly liked the opening sequence blending movement and dance so effectively. David is very experienced as MD and it showed, with fine control, interpretation, playing and singing. Dan Bates gave a very good performance as Billy, developing a strong character, while Tracy Renshaw gave a lovely performance as Julie vocally and dramatically. Lauren-Rose Stirland made her Society principal debut as a great Carrie, full of character, a lovely voice and someone to look out for in future, and she worked very well with Mark Birch, very well cast as Mr Snow. Phil Deakiin was completely in character as Jigger and in fine voice, as indeed was Cheryl Mills as Nettie. The ensemble provided full support throughout both dramatically and with lovely choral singing. The choreography and dancing was good, blending well with the stage action and Hattie Kemish was a delightful Louise in the ballet. The costumes, set and props were good and together with the lighting added to the visual effect. Stage management was efficient keeping the momentum going, so important with these longer shows. This was very well prepared by the talented production team and provided great entertainment.
