I am always extremely impressed by the high standard of A.T.C.s drama productions. ‘Birdsong’ was without a doubt one of the best. The set was very impressive and created the perfect setting for this very talented cast and dedicated society. Dressed with authentic costumes and very innovative lighting and with specific attention to detail we immediately took on the seriousness off the production through the scene that had been set.  The whole creative picture was enhanced by the excellent sound effects.

‘Birdsong’ is a story based in the turmoil of the trenches on the frontline starting just before the big push for the Somme in 1916. The young Lieutenant Stephen Wraysford (Nick Biggers) is trying to come to grips with the meaning of war and his passionate love affair with Isabelle Azaire  (Olivia Walker). Both these actors played their roles with passion and conviction and gave outstanding performances. Jack Firebrace (Matt Bush) was perfect for this part, he is such a talented actor and easily interprets the roles he plays to make them realistic and one is always quickly transported into whatever situation he is placed.

There were too many supporting actors in this play to single out performances but I felt the whole team fully deserved praise for contributing to the success of the piece and all showed exceptional talent and portrayed their roles with real insight into the individual characters. They easily led us through the ‘Action’ in the trenches and at times emotion was running high as the play progressed. This was a well supported production and I heard many complimentary remarks as I left the theatre.  Well done everyone in delivering an evening of thought provoking entertainment. Congratulations to the production team for a very well executed show in every respect.
