Ringwood has chosen to mark the Centenary of the end of World War One with a Tribute to all who served for King & Country. Director Rosemary Guy has put together a great show with the first half moving along with songs and poetry of the time, with the soldiers leaving their girls and families behind. Different scenes following on. I liked Liam Deedman as the paper boy calling out the different 'News Headlines' of the time as the scene changed.
Jenny Elward has some nice choreography and Fiona Pritchard has the singing and music under control.
The set is simple and effective, lighting and sound are just right. Costumes right for the time.
They anounced at the start of the show not to clap any items in the first half, I had thought this was a shame as some of the numbers or characters did what they had to do so well they deserved some applause, but not clapping was so much more powerful, and would have been wrong on this occasion. By the end of Act 1, after 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' and the Last Post I was moved and had tears in my eyes like others in the audience.
Act 2 was an 'Old Time Music Hall' complete with Host, Richard Bennett. He had the audience with all his long worded introductions and this was great, lots of fun songs, dancing and everyone had their own 'spot to shine'. I liked Duncan Reid as the Bridesmaid. Great second half.
Well done to everyone, you should all be very proud of your fitting tribute.
