Despite the snowy conditions outside, a very responsive full house thoroughly enjoyed this vibrant and colourful production of Aladdin. This panto, written by Adam Stevenson and Leon Wade, with music composed by Leon, was performed by the company with gusto, really rising to the challenge.
Aladdin and Princess Jasmine were well played by Sophie Hurry and Connie Turton, a brash performance by Jonathon Higgins as Widow Twankey, with able comedy support from Oliver Wheddon as Wishee Washee, George Parkinson as Sergeant Suey and Liam Morris as Constable Chop. The highlight performances came from Matt Biddulph, outstanding as the evil baddie Abanazer, and Bradley MaClean, as the Genie Jeeves, who was complemented by a very glamorous Laura Davey as Genie Jean.
But an A+ accolade must go to the chorus on their enthusiastic and vigorous performance, keeping the show bouncing along. Good costumes, sets, and band completed what was a refreshingly different slant on this pantomime. Congratulations to all, the future looks very bright with some of the maturing youngsters.
