This was the sixth in an excellent series of pantomime, performed by Centre Stage Youth Theatre. It is a credit to them that the youth group goes from strength to strength and they consistently put on a marvellous performance. Aladdin played by Chloe Wilkes, was the typical hero of the piece, she sang her songs well but it was a shame she was recovering from that plague of musical theatre, the throat infection. Her acting and characterisation was good and Princess Jasmine played by Beth Smith was an excellent pairing. Les Murray as Widow Twankey, was excellent and his comic timing and ad libs helped to make the show. Glen Cavers, has a superb voice and once again shone. He certainly was not what his character is named, Wishee Washee. Abanazer had that boo factor and was suitably nasty. The part was carried well by Esther Wilkes. The comedy pairing of Hazel Jeffries and Leona Evans as the hapless policemen was excelent. Their timing and comedy performance was superb, as was the glamorous Slave of the Ring, Michelle Sterling. The remainder of the supporting principals all carried out their roles with aplomb and helped make this a very good night out. As usual, the younger members of the group were utilised in the dance sequences and there are a few of them that immediately catch the eye and will be in the starring roles in the not too distant future. Another excellent performance, Thanks Centre Stage.
