This company came very close indeed to reproducing the atmosphere and characters of the original television 'Acorn Antiques'. As usual, HTC provided a first class performance on admirably prepared sets, with all the essential trimmings of good lighting and splendid props. Peter Ingledew certainly moulded his cast into a fine team and Dave Barnett had worked the music up to a high standard, both on stage and in the orchestra pit. Ann Atkins' portrayal of Mrs Overall can only be described as brilliant. There can be no other interpretation of the role than that of Julie Walters and Ann WAS Julie Walters! Miss Babs and Mr Clifford were also superbly portrayed. Every other member of the cast was a real individual; there was no chorus here. The choreography - particularly the tap routine - was a joy. Overall, this was a delightful evening. The Director's programme notes summarise the whole experience: 'Improbable, implausible, impossible ... but ... very, very funny.'.
