This show was the directorial debut of Claire Taylor, and what a superb job she made of it The concept and programme was devised and directed by Claire. The show as the title suggests took numbers from many of the current and past shows from the West End, and was a mixture of well known, not so well known and to me some unknown items, but the whole thing co-ordinated well. In a production such as this where there are many people doing things which are out of their normal comfort zone it is very difficult to single anyone out individually, but I have to say that the mixture of Solos, duets, group numbers and full chorus was extremely enjoyable and well done by all.
A highlight for me was the Senior Chorus rendition of the very difficult 'Masquerade' from Phantom of the Opera and the chorus carried it off brilliantly.
It was a great pleasure to me to see so many youngsters (from the Junior section) on stage and showing so much commitment to what they were doing. We must all remember that these youngsters are the stars of the future and need all of our encouragement.
As I said earlier it is very difficult to individualise but I must make mention of a solo by 1 young lady who I have seen develop over the years and that is Rebecca Mayer whose delivery of ‘I will always love you’ from Bodyguard was in my opinion exceptional. Well done Rebecca.
With simple costuming, an effective lighting plot and a combo very ably led by M.D. Ross Norman this was a very enjoyable concert which seemed to be appreciated by the large audience.
Well done Gateshead and we look forward to your next venture.
