‘13’ is the perfect show for any youth theatre. It’s new, funny and relevant to the young people of today. However, it would be wrong to presume that because it is writtenfor young people to perform that it is easy to perform. The music presents challenges and it takes a company with great Musical leadership to present this show to the very high standard that LYMT have. In their 37th year, and this year under and the direction of Ian Wilson and baton of Philip Jones, this talented company gave the piece pace, wit and some memorable company numbers.

Daniel Bewsher in the lead role of Evan Goldman led us through his Jewish coming of age with great maturity as a performer. Managing the difficult task of engaging the audience directly and playing out his story amongst his fellow cast members. Matthew O’Hanlon Elms as Archie, brought great comedy timing to the stage whilst the cheerleaders led by Faye Bate in the role of Kendra were full of energy and certainly are accomplished and experienced performers.  Supporting roles by Kelly La Trobe and Sam Harvey added to the host of talent on stage. There were so many impressive voices  on stage and mention must go to Morgan Evans whose cameo solo was quite something.

A stand out performance from a very young Kaleigh Bonner as Patrice was the highlight of the show. Kayleigh’s voice and delivery was superb from start to finish and she was a delight to watch.

This is a youth company that has strength all round. Each young person looked to be enjoying the production immensely and this in turn ensured the audience enjoyed their performance. They are blessed as a group to host such a great cast supported by an incredibly strong ensemble.
