Jasmin Mandi-Ghomi
Jasmin is a British-Iranian writer from West Yorkshire. Her first full length play Allah In the Walls was developed on the Catalyst Programme at the North Wall Arts Centre and went on to be shortlisted for the Bruntwood Prize. In Summer 2021, she developed the play The Magic of Wild Heather which was written for the National Theatre’s Public Acts and performed at Cast Theatre in Doncaster. She has participated in the BBC’s Northern Voices Scheme, Sheffield Theatre’s Bank Cohort, and the Bush Theatre’s Emerging Writers Group. Over 2023, she was part of the Warner Writers Exchange Scheme for which she wrote her first TV series Joon. Her latest play The End was written for the Bush Theatre’s Young Company and staged in August 2024.
Session: Playwright’s Retreat
A chance for aspiring writers to work on their dream scripted project with input and guidance from an experienced tutor and the support and critique of their peers. This course is all about making valuable space to achieve writing ambitions in a supportively challenging environment.
During the course students will:
- find ways of vanquishing the blank page.
- expand knowledge of strategies to tap into creativity and storytelling.
- explore character creation and how to build the world of the play.
- refine their script writing skills and explore new writing techniques.
- debate and investigate the choices made by writers.
- benefit from the rare luxury of time and space to write.
This course is for writers who are looking for input from an experienced and supportive tutor and equally independent, self-directed time to work on their own plays
