A middle-aged man somewhat down on his luck, inherits a Paris apartment and plans to solve his financial woes by selling it. He discovers, to his dismay, that the elderly woman living there with her daughter has, under French law, lifetime habitation rights an is not about to give them up. He has nowhere to go and so she invites him to stay. This results in some unexpected revelations and developments.
