Backstreet Theatre Company was formed in 2010. After a small group of us sang for the Council’s charity concert at Cannock‘s Prince Of Wales Theatre, we realised that there was a demand in the area for a new company, one to produce shows which other companies might not attempt or to take a traditional show and put our own stamp on it.

We launched with the Broadway show Rent at the Prince Of Wales in March 2011. Standing ovations every night spoke for themselves and with positive reviews of our talent and professionalism, we knew we had set our mark. Later on that year we produced a two night concert showcasing each member’s individual talents with songs from musicals, soundtracks, pop and even rap.

Our next production, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, was a Broadway show based on the truths and myths behind the dating game – the first date, marriage, new borns… even pick up techniques of the elderly! With fantastic music and moving, funny sketches, it gave Backstreet chance to show off our acting skills. The show went down a storm and again proved we could be an amateur company with professional standards. We also took on the musically challenging Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown, a musical formed of individual songs telling individual moving and sometimes funny stories.

Our performance of Jekyll and Hyde in 2013 got five star reviews and set the bar even higher for 2014. We recieved the Noda Award for best musical in our district for this production.

In 2014 with "An Evening of Musical Theatre" and "Our House" on 4-6th September we have had a very busy year. We were thrilled to recieve a nomination for best musical fron Noda for "Our House".

Then in 2015 we took on the very challenging "Into the Woods" and made our own stamp on this fantastic musical and were overwhelmed to receive our 3rd nomination for best musical in our district. We ended the year with our first ever pantomine at Norton Canes Community Centre "Cinderella".

In 2016 we performed "Working"  at the Prince of Wales Theatre and we also thrilled to be asked to perform at the West Midlands Noda Awards at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall in April. "Dick Whittington" completed our year very nicely, back at Norton Canes Community Centre.

2017 has been such a busy year so far with our sell out production of "Rock of Ages" in March and we are now moving ever closer to our production of "Made in Dagenham" in November. Then we will be finishing 2017 with our 3rd pantomine "Sleeping Beauty".

We are a lively group of around 30 members and rehearse weekly on Thursdays, from 7pm – 10pm, at the Bridgtown Primary School in Cannock.

At the heart of our company is our Choreographer/Director, Michelle Windsor. Her years of choreography knowledge and experience of working on a huge variety of shows means she knows exactly what it takes to put together a hit show. Her vision, in terms of what she knows we can achieve and how to bring it out in us, has lead to the huge success of our productions.
