With a good rousing opening chorus, the society achieved the important objective to grab the audience from the word go. This production had all the required elements that created an excellent evening`s entertainment. The principals` voices blended well and there were good characterisations, particularly from Nicola Smith (Mabel) and Craig Arme (Frederick) in very fine form. Brian Meese gave us an amusing Major-General, well supported by Allister Jordan as the Pirate King. Jayne Brewster Beard was most convincing as Ruth. The ensemble singing was to their usual high standard with the orchestra never overwhelming the vocalists. The movement had been carefully set with the abilities of the cast in mind. Colourful costumes and a simple, yet well designed set complimented the performance. I am sure that everyone left the theatre having had a really enjoyable evening. I hope the week was a success and I look forward to your next production.
