I was welcomed into a very festive Dolman Theatre and started the evening with a lovely glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, just the setting needed for a Christmas show.

The many musical numbers ranged from well loved classics including “Oh Holy Night” and “Silent Night” to “Sparklejollytwinkleyjingley” from Elf and “Whats This” from Nightmare before Christmas.

There were many solos and some songs split between several members giving everyone a change to shine, and they did.

The youth section had their own sections and also joined in with the adult ensemble, they gave it their all and smiled all the way through, with lovely voices and confident performances. They are the future of the theatre and it was nice to see them involved and encouraged.

In between sections some of the cast were invited to add their own twist to old songs by giving them new lyrics, these were all very funny but my favorite was “The Toilet Door Said Gentlemen” to the tune of God Rest You Merry Gentlemen.

We were given a taste of the MINI (I use the term loosely) section singing “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” with Jean Rowe, Elaine Hurford and Chris Edmunds, it was great fun.

In act 2 we were all invited to join in and words were printed in the programme.

It was a fun and jolly evening and started the Christmas season of with a bang.

Well Done to all involved on stage and off.
