Based on the popular British film, the musical takes place in Buffalo New Jersey where a group of men aspire to become the local Chippendales.
Great credit must be given to the six stars of this show, James Randell as Jerry, Liam Daly as Dave, Graham Perkins as Harold, Will Thomas as Malcom, Ieuan Matthews as Ethan and Simon Evans as Horse, who all delivered the goods. Six strong individual performances but they also had great team work and it appeared as if they loved every minute of the show.
They were well supported by the ladies with strong performances from Chloe Feerick as Pam, Sarah-Jen Lord as Georgie, Clare Jones as Vicki and Leonitia Walters as the long-suffering piano player, Jeannette.
Liam Thomas as Nathan, was very likeable and was clearly enjoying his involvement in this fun production. The female ensemble had more of a supporting role in this show, but they always had good energy and did a fine job of fully engaging the very enthusiastic audience.
Director Wendy Gazzard, Musical Director Tim Murray and Choreographer Roxanne Bevan must be congratulated on creating a fast moving production.
The lack of scenery to which some scenes were played, a large amount of black tabs made for me some scenes visually boring. Costume appeared to be supplied by individuals, however were appropriate.
One criticism is that on the evening I attended the band were extremely loud and the cast fought all night to compete, sadly they lost.
Congratulations Pontypridd Theatre Company
