Nothing much was left to the imagination in this very comedic adaptation by Fraser Grant. Karen McInally opened as a female Jeremy Kyle style presenter whose programme focused on bringing celebrity couple Orpheus (played by local celebrity Jeremy Vinogradov) and reality starlet Eurydice (Lindy Everett) back to matrimonial harmony. Onward to ‘I’m an Olympian – get me out of here’ and then off to Hell and ‘Bad Brother House’ with an 18+ orgy bringing us to a climax! Wonderful large orchestra under direction of Ken Roberts, first class soloists interestingly using some regional accents together with strong ensemble work. Minimalistic sets with good props and a huge white mask which when turned became a huge chair. Excellent costuming, particularly eye catching were the reds and blacks for Hades. Interesting lighting and effects throughout. Some totally unexpected moments included a saucy balloon popping moment from Hell’s Belle Severine Brooks and a convincing Elvis lookalike, Mike Barber. Other credits were Peter Grevatt as Jupiter, Ian Parrett the dandy Pluto, and Siobhan Blake Monteith as Venus. Certainly not your traditional Orpheus. All cast members had given characters.
