Cast & Crew are known for performing a range of plays and this is the first time I have seen them perform a musical.  I have also not seen this particular Musical play before so I was keen to see what they did with it.

Overall it was well performed and the cast had worked hard to develop their individual characters.  Sally Catling demonstrated her versatility playing the main female part of Mary Kelly.  David Revell-Smith gave a good performance as the Music Hall Chairman & Master of Ceremonies and Jeff Hodgkins (Daniel Mendoza) showed he can both act and sing with good effect.

All the company performed well but I did find the production very static.   For a lot of the time the company seemed to be arranged in a semi-circle at the back of the stage area, simply stepping forward to say their dialogue or sing their song.  The dialogue seemed to indicate that much of the show was being performed as Music Hall and would have liked to see more being made of this, the Chairman was in place and if there had been a few tables and chairs dotted around it would have helped to create the effect.  This would also have given different levels during the production which serves to make it more interesting.

I am afraid that I found the music less than memorable, although it was performed with energy and enthusiasm by the cast who did try to make it more interesting.

I am sure that Cast & Crew have all the necessary abilities and cast members to perform musicals, this script was not, perhaps, a particularly good one, they did the best they could with it.
