This was a lively production and a slick pace was maintained throughout, assisted by the fact that, in the absence of built sets, the scenes were projected on to the back wall of the stage. In addition the assistant stage managers under the direction of stage managers Amanda Knight and George Philpott were swift in changing the props for each scene. The prologue was well mimed by the company and Kevin Cassidy was in top form as Billy Bigelow - his rendering of the soliloquy was a highlight. Sarah Wood was a competent Julie Jordan, her voice blended well with Kevin and their duet If I loved You was perfectly sung. Lynne Grover (Carrie Pipperedge) and Jeff Tester (Enoch Snow) made an ideal couple while Mary Caneron was a sincere Nettie Fowler - her contrasting songs June is Bustin' Out All Over and You'll Never Walk Alone were a joy to hear. Other notable performances came from Alan Jenkins as Jigger, John McLauhghlin as the Heavenly Friend and Abigail Robinson as Louise - she was a delight to watch in the ballet. Finally the orchestra provided ideal accompaniment and did justice to the Richard Rogers score.
