Having to cancel their production of The Mikado, due to the ongoing closure of the Guildhall Theatre, the society came up with this rousing concert of G & S favourites. It had the aficionados in the audience lapping up every minute of this well balanced and entertaining presentation. Craig and partners produced tit bits from nigh on every creation of the famous pair.
Starting with a concert version of Trial by Jury, which had polished spots from Patrick Dawson as the Judge, with Nicola Gale as the Plaintiff, both in fine voice, the concert continued with excerpts from many more of the much-loved comic operas.
Other quality performances came from company stalwarts, Colin Ashton and Kathryn Fitchett. Fine contributions came from Craig Arme, Peter and Margaret Featherstone, Melvyn and Jean Edwards, along with the impressive Jayne Brewster-Beard. Angela Martin and Claire Warren, Tony Eley and David Fletcher added to the enjoyment of the production.
The whole of the company deserve great credit for their tremendous choral support, adding greatly to the quality of the show.
Capped by a class orchestra under the baton of Carl Smith, I trust this went close to making up for the disappointment of not being able to perform a complete G & S classic.
