Dear NODA member,

Many of you attended the Awards lunch, in May, at Wicksteed Park.  Although it was a lovely venue, those who attended will know that the catering and facilities were not up to the standard that we expected.  I have not written before about this as I wanted to discuss the options with the venue organisers and try to obtain some compensation from them for the failures that happened.  I am pleased to say that we have been successful in this.

It was then necessary to discuss how we can distribute this compensation to the membership.  After a lot of investigation and discussion, it was established that offering a refund to those who attended was simply not feasible.  The cost of the manpower for such an exercise was higher than the compensation that we could offer.   We have, therefore, decided to reduce the price of the tickets for next year’s event in the expectation that many of those who did attend this year will, probably, attend again.

Obviously, we will not be returning to Wicksteed Park, but finding a venue to seat 500 has been a challenge involving visits to venues spread across the region.   I am pleased to say that we have found a venue, that will accommodate the numbers that wish to come along, and we have booked it for 2020.

This is The Forum, Stevenage and the venue is in the centre of town, a 2 minute walk from Stevenage railway station and with ample car parking alongside at a cost of £2 for the whole day,  The date is earlier, 8th March 2020, but we hope that this will not clash with as many shows as the May dates did.

The price of tickets will be reduced, for 2020 only, to £35 per head and the format of the day will be similar to previous years.  We also have the opportunity to make some changes which we hope you will enjoy when you attend.

This event is proving to be very popular, with attendances increasing year on year.  It is a lovely day, when the catering works, and a great opportunity to network with other societies, and visit our comprehensive Traders exhibition.

Please reserve the date in your diaries as the bookings will open on 2 January 2020.  Past experience has shown us that places are booked quickly, and we are not going to limit the number of guests per booking.  So, if you want to bring a group, you will need to book early!

Your district representative will have more information in due course, and we look forward to seeing you to celebrate the achievements of the societies and members in NODA East.

Kind Regards
