Tom Hughes is a theatre maker originally from Folkestone and now based in London. In 2017, he won Best Director at the Off West End Offie awards for his production of new American play 'punkplay' by Gregory Moss at Southwark Playhouse. His credits as associate/staff director include 'Caroline, or Change' (Playhouse Theatre), 'The Threepenny Opera' & 'Amadeus' (National Theatre Olivier). He is an Associate Director for NT Connections, and a regular teacher of acting at East 15 Drama School.

Acting technique is a vital element of any performance on stage. This week will offer you practical, hands on exploration resulting in a toolbox of approaches you can apply to your rehearsals and performances.
Looking at the rich array of approaches to acting in practical workshops your highly experienced tutor will guide and support as you:
- explore text in workshopped sessions and experiment with performance
- learn how to create the world of the play that speaks to both actor and audience
- work to create truthful characters and relationships
- enjoy the language and drama of text through rehearsal
- work with other students to explore, discuss and perform scenes throughout the week
A fascinating, much requested course to appeal to all those who love the process of acting, studying text and translating it from page to stage. The course is aimed at actors who want to stretch their boundaries and push out of their comfort zone. Some acting experience is recommended, and you will need an open mind and the ability to take on new ideas with courage and trust in an emotionally and physically demanding week exploring the world of acting.
