Session: Costume for Theatre
A practical and valuable course that focuses on imaginatively recycling and reimagining your society’s existing wardrobe to make original costumes for your productions. A great recipe to cut costs and protect the environment without compromising on the look of your production. In an exciting collaboration each costume student will partner with a set design student and work together in partnership to develop your production vision.
During the week you will:
- develop specific skills in making alterations and adaptations to garments
- follow the steps needed for effective costuming from concept, to design, to creation guided by an expert tutor
- explore the relationship between character and costume.
- learn simple but effective ways to upcycle existing costume into what is needed for a production.
- develop vital knowledge of techniques needed to make costumes from scratch.
- experiment with ways of creating a transformation dress fit for the most regal Elsa or charming Cinderella on the tightest of budgets
This course is for anyone interested in costume regardless of experience.
Please note students might need to provide some materials/equipment for the course but we will endeavour to keep costs to a minimum.
