Hayley Greggs

Hayley GreggsHayley is a Liverpool based playwright, dramaturg and theatre practitioner with over 10 years experience working in the arts and culture sector. She works collaboratively to create new work which is joyful, highly visual and responds to the world today. 

Hayley is also a founding member of Paperwork Theatre; a Liverpool based theatre company creating joyful, adventurous theatrical experiences in a range of traditional and non-traditional theatre spaces for all ages and backgrounds. Since 2014, many of her plays have been created with and produced by the company including; Deep Blue (Liverpool Everyman Theatre), Typhoon & the Pedal Players (North West tour), I Spy a Yeti (Libraries tour) and You, Me + the Goal Post (Octagon Theatre Bolton). 

As the Co-Artistic Director, she acts as both an artistic lead and a senior manager for the delivery of mid-scale outdoor projects. Her Creative Producer credits include: Christmas Countdown, Lovestruck, Twisted and Baltic Alight. 

Hayley has played a key role in the development of Paperwork's Artists Opportunities Programme, leading on the delivery of Script Surgeries which were delivered In association with the Everyman and Playhouse Theatre. 

Hayley started working as a dramaturg in 2012 when she was employed at the Everyman & Playhouse Theatre . Here, she was responsible for developing new plays for the artistic programme, coordinating artist development initiatives and nurturing theatre making talent through practical workshops and new writing events. Since 2017, she has been working as a dramaturg in a freelance capacity, predominantly with female emerging and mid-career artists from underrepresented backgrounds. Dramaturgy credits include: Eric's the Musical by Ste Reid, Tough Old Bird by Angie Waller, You can Hear the Heat by Denise Kennedy and How To Mend a Broken Heart by Ginni Manning. 

Further to this Hayley has worked as a script reader for The Royal Exchange Theatre, 4Stories and often teaches as a visiting practitioner at various North West Universities. 

Alongside theatre making, Hayley works as a freelance project manager to facilitate and produce arts and cultural events which has included working with The National Youth Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Open Culture. 

Session: Adapting a Classic Novel for the Stage

A wonderful way of immersing a company or society in creativity and saving money on performance rights is to adapt a classic novel into a play. This approach creates work that will engage and delight an audience.

This course is for students who are happy to get involved in collaboration, creating performance material and putting scenes “on their feet.” 

Students may need to buy and read the classic text that will be the focus before the course.
