Jonny Dixon

Jonny Dixon has been creating theatre for over 30 years. Having explored a range of different disciplines within that time he enjoys blending styles and approaches to create imaginative and unusual new performance work. LeCoq-trained, his approach is often through physical expression and play and this is often blended with his passion for creating dynamic masks and puppets and quirky design. During his career he has performed with the RSC, Improbable Theatre & Welsh National Opera (amongst many others), created his own solo shows and has toured to over 20 different countries around the world. He also works as an artist/ illustrator and has (nearly) built his own 100ft houseboat from scratch!

 

Session: How to Create Something from Nothing

Want to learn how to make imaginative, quirky, dynamic, meaningful and impactful performance from scratch? This is the course for you.

During the week you will:

• discover ways to get work on its feet quickly and ‘learn by doing’. 
• use a range of different styles and approaches (storytelling, physical theatre, developing character, play, mask, mime, puppetry, vocal expression, writing text, creating bespoke props/costume/set) 
• explore different ways of creating your own fantastical and theatrically dynamic pieces of theatre
• develop ways of transforming everyday places into exciting site-specific performance spaces, that gives audiences unusual new ways of ‘watching theatre’ 
• learn how to inventively use everyday materials to make unique tools to help tell our tales.

The performance doesn’t exist yet…but we’ll discover it together and bring it to life. Be prepared to work hard, play hard, laugh a lot, explore bravely and unleash your potential within a strong and supportive ensemble. 

This is a course for actors, performers and creative theatre makers. It is for beginners and those with more experience.
