Mack and Mabel

31 May 2017 - 3 June 2017

Lochgelly & Disrtrict Amateur Musical Associatione

The story of the on/ off love affair between Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand.  Sennett was arguably the greatest movie director of the ‘golden era of silent movies’.  His passion for making people laugh resulted in ‘slapstick, one reel’ comedies being churned out at a prolific rate and lapped up by an adoring public.

We first meet Mack in 1938 when he revisits his old movie studio.  Told in flashback we come upon his chance meeting with Mabel Normand in 1910 and visit the ups and downs of their stormy relationship. The story unfolds through the wonderful comedy scenes from Sennett’s slapstick silent movies.  Along the way we meet  Charlie Chaplin, Fatty Arbuckle and the famous Keystone Cops.   Even the inevitable custard pie fight is included!   And all of this is set to the fabulous songs and music penned by Jerry Herman!
