Show Report
In his book ‘A Christmas Carol’, Dickens sought to construct a family based secular celebration of Yuletide founded on love and kindness, in contrast to the church-centred observances. Leslie Bricusse has taken this well-known story and, using his immense musical talent, transformed it into the extremely entertaining musical ‘Scrooge’ which, although technically challenging, was most capably performed by B.O.S. as their seasonal production.
There was fine character acting by all the players with a particularly sterling performance by Matt Barnes as Scrooge. The young actors who appeared on stage made super contributions that indicated they have much potential and efforts should be made to encourage their continued involvement in theatre. The costumes were wonderfully appropriate and the make-up really good -the ghosts were great. Superb results were also achieved through the specialist prosthetics work by David Duke.
The score for this show is demanding but under the skilled direction of Lynne Baker the musicians coped admirably, the solo vocalists performed extremely well and the chorus work was excellent, especially their really stirring finishes.
Those who appeared on stage were well supported by a competent and energetic production team; no wonder this show attracted capacity audiences. Well done!
