Show Report

Unusually, this group staged a second musical this year and they made a good job of 'Blitz'. The set was extremely good and the props were fine for the early nineteen forties. So, too, were the costumes. The orchestra played well but at times the accompaniment was over-loud.
Elizabeth Roberts, displaying excellent vocal and acting ability, was a young-looking Mrs Blitzstein. Sarah Norvock [Carol] and Adam Saunby [Georgie] were nicely matched and it was good to see David Walters treading the boards again. I liked Alan Trevor's portrayal of 'wideboy' Harry Blitzstein immensely. The rest of the named characters and chorus was strong in support and the children brought a lot to this production.
Throughout the evening the singing was good and there were some interesting dance routines. Above all, I found the special effects particularly noteworthy. The bombing sequence was extremely realistic.
Well done.
